Twin Zygosity DNA Test - 25 Loci

This test determines the genetic relationship between twins in relation to zygosity.

Twins are classified as monozygotic (identical) or dizygotic (fraternal), depending on whether they originate from one or two eggs. Monozygotic twins share the same DNA, while dizygotic twins are genetically different, just like any other siblings.

Monozygotic twins, also known as Identical Twins, are formed when a single fertilized egg splits into two embryos during the early stages of development. Since they originate from the same egg and the same sperm cell, they share nearly identical genetic material and are always of the same sex. They usually have a very strong physical resemblance, which often makes them difficult to distinguish from one another. During pregnancy, they may share the same placenta and, in some cases, even the same amniotic sac.

In contrast, dizygotic twins, commonly referred to as Fraternal Twins, occur when two separate eggs are fertilized simultaneously by two different sperm cells. As a result, their genetic material is not identical, and their biological relationship is similar to that of any two siblings born at different times. Their appearance may differ significantly or show certain similarities, and they may be either the same or different sexes. In most cases, each fetus develops with its own placenta and its own amniotic sac.

The procedure is as follows:

You receive two double sterile swabs. You will need to collect saliva from the inside of both cheeks of all test participants. Then you will return the swabs to us in the return envelope that you will find inside the package. In a few days you will receive in your email the correlation report of the two samples you sent. The report will be locked with a password that only you will know. The standard time of the issuing of the results is about 14 days starting from the day we receive the samples.
