When do I take the Progesterone PdG Test?

You will need 5 Progesterone (PdG) tests for each cycle.
You will do the first test after your period, to confirm that your progesterone is low, as it should be.
Then you will find the day of your ovulation.
The remaining 4 tests must be done on the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th day past the day of your ovulation. These tests should confirm that your progesterone is high, as it should be.

Progesterone test (PdG) is a quick, easy and accurate way to detect the presence of the progesterone metabolite (PdG - pregnanediol-3-glucuronide) in urine. This is a reliable and completely safe chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of the progesterone metabolite PdG. Use these tests in combination with ovulation tests to see if your ovulation was successful.

A few words about Progesterone

Progesterone is a natural hormone secreted by the corpus luteum and the placenta. It participates in the normal function of the hypothalamic - pituitary - gonadal axis, along with estrogen and is involved in the ovulation cycle. In the second half of the menstrual cycle, progesterone promotes the growth of endometrial blood vessels and its thickening. It prepares the endometrium for the implantation of the fertilized egg and welcomes the fetus so that it can grow safely. A progesterone (PdG) test can help you determine if your ovulation has been successful.

Let’s take as an example a cycle of 28 days (the first day of bleeding is the beginning of the cycle). Under normal circumstances, progesterone levels during the follicular phase (the first half of the cycle) are always low. On the 13th day, LH hormone peak was reached and was detected by a HomeTest ovulation test. Ovulation occurred 24-48 hours after peak and the follicle that released the egg closed to form the corpus luteum and secrete progesterone. The luteal phase (the second half of the cycle) lasts about 14 days. On day 7 after ovulation (ie on the 21st day of this cycle), progesterone levels reach their maximum values. If the egg is not fertilized, the corpus luteum degenerates and progesterone levels gradually decrease by day 28 and the next day a new cycle begins. But if fertilization takes place, then progesterone levels remain high. It also produces a new hormone, hCG, which is detected by a HomeTest pregnancy test. In the early stages of pregnancy, progesterone is still produced by the corpus luteum and is essential for supporting pregnancy. With the establishment of the full function of the placenta between the 8th and the 12th week of pregnancy, progesterone is secreted by the placenta.

Why PdG: PdG, the major metabolite of progesterone in the urine, is highly correlated with blood progesterone levels and gives better results in urine samples. It can monitor the reproductive status and help detect possible pregnancy or possible infertility. Women trying to conceive should check their progesterone levels. Frequent collection of blood in microbiological laboratories causes pain and stress, while urine sampling is convenient, simple and non-invasive.

The best method to test:

• Use one test after your period is over. This test will be your guide and should be negative. You need to make sure that PdG levels are low at this time - as they should be - before ovulation. Then wait to find the first positive ovulation test and follow these steps:

• Use four tests on days 7, 8, 9 and 10 after the first positive ovulation test (LH peak day).

Order Assistant: This specific package contains 5 PdG tests. You can combine it with LH tests and HcG tests.

To calculate your fertile days, please feel free to use our online fertility calendar by clicking here.
Have in mind that, like all similar calendars, it relies on mathematical calculations and you should use it only as a general guide and only if your cycle does not fluctuate. If your cycle fluctuates, it means that your ovulation day is not steady in the cycle and thus you necessarily need to use ovulation tests to find your fertile day.
